Just About Anything Can Be Carried Atop Ones Head

from Elliott
There always seems to be a constant stream of people walking along the road. What is fascinating though is the wide variety of items that people are carrying - one top of their heads of course! It is already a bit precarious to walk alongside the narrow rode with cars, trucks and buses whizzing by. But then you add some rather large payloads balanced upon ones head and uneven payment and other hazards. Balance is certainly something that is learned at an early age here.

Of course there are the typical - groceries, large bags of rice or beans, 20 litre buckets of water and tools of the trade like weed wackers. But there are also the unusual. Yesterday, I saw 3 people walking with suitcases up top and they were the kind with wheels...obviously they have not seen the commercials of people effortlessly gliding through airports. What would Samsonite say!

I have also seen large bundles of sticks and branches perhaps 6 feet long being carried home for firewood or repairs to the roof. Today I saw what looked to be a green haystack walking down the road. It turned out to be someone carrying a really large load of sugar cane - so large such that it was dragging the ground on both ends. I couldn't be certain there was a person under there because I could not see them but it was moving down the road.
